Mayor’s Message

Welcome to the 2009 Doors Open Whitchurch-Stouffville event! I encourage you and your family to take advantage of this special celebration of our community’s heritage.

Twelve heritage sites across our Town are being showcased. This year you will see heritage buildings revitalized. Highlights include:

  • a backstage tour of a multi-faceted arts, culture & entertainment centre;
  • an early 19th century holiday resort and dance hall;
  • behind-the-scenes information about the Museum’s heritage buildings;
  • an historic walk of downtown Stouffville;
  • contemporary artwork in a building designed by an award-winning architect;
  • a ride on a miniature steam-powered train;
  • a former bowling alley and billiards hall;
  • highlights of the history of fi refi ghting in Stouffville;
  • a menswear and shoe shop turned community radio;
  • a flour mill on the Oak Ridges Moraine;
  • a 19th-century church with an added 70,000 square foot facility;
  • the resting place of Town founder Abraham Stouffer.

This is certainly a unique opportunity to explore some of our Town’s intriguing heritage treasures, most of which are rarely open to the public.

I’d like to thank the property owners, members of the Doors Open Whitchurch-Stouffville Organizing Committee, the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum, and the numerous volunteers who have made this day-long, free event possible.  Congratulations on your successful event!

Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy our local history!
